The planned international study visit under the umbrella of MultiEd project was held at the Heidelberg University of Education and started on Monday, 7 November and ran through Friday, 11 November 2022. The aim of the meeting was the modernization of higher education in Ukraine, namely the introduction of new integrated disciplines into the future foreign language teachers’ training process at BA and MA levels. Project coordinators Kristjan Klauks and Oleksandra Golovko represented the University of Tartu (Estonia). Jim Chen presented Aston University (the UK). Ukraine was represented by state experts of the Directorate of Vocational Pre-Higher, Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Vitaliy Nosok and Oleksandra Laktionova, as well as project participants from eight universities of Ukraine and members of TESOL Ukraine.
Professors and lectures of the Heidelberg University of Education discussed the principles of the system of secondary and higher education in Germany with the participants of the study visit. Particular attention was paid to the modern issue of the importance of sustainable development of education and continuity in the learning process.
The key issues of the meeting were the implementation of content and language integrated learning approach at educational institutions (Germany and Ukraine), provision of the education system using information electronic technologies – e-learning, and implementation of the strategy of multilingual education, as well as the process of internationalization of partner universities.
The program of the visit was fruitful with lessons observations in Heidelberg schools and their discussion, fulfillment of creative tasks, attending classes and lectures, meetings with professors and students, teachers and pupils.
The participants visited schools and gymnasiums, where they had the opportunity to observe the implementation of the content and language integrated learning approach and communicated with schoolchildren from different parts of Ukraine.
An important moment of the study visit was a productive exchange of ideas with representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, members of TESOL Ukraine and MultiEd university partners.
